UNDER $100 ROOM DECOR CHALLENGE!

UNDER $100 ROOM DECOR CHALLENGE!

Hey guys! I am back from South Carolina and have to show you some of the projects we worked on while I was down there. My friends daughter, Ella, is 10 years old and she wanted me to decorate her room. Her mother had a very small budget of $100 and we completed this room under $100! She spent a grand total of $88 and some spare change for this transformation.

BEFORE

As you can see, she didn’t have any art on her walls, a towel as a curtain, her furniture isn’t functional, and it just looked and felt empty and sad. I also wanted to get her a sheet set and some decorative pillows for her bed. We started by moving the dresser at the foot of her bed out. She didn’t need it and wasn’t even using it, so we moved it out to free up floor space.

Here is another view of her room. She needed a curtain for her windows and her closet, art for her walls, and just generally clean it up a bit. My plans were to get her curtains, artwork, and bring her personality into her room.

And one more view of her room. She needs some artwork, clean up her dresser area and a mirror above her dresser. We helped Ella clean up her room and then we headed to Rose’s, Dollar Tree, and Goodwill to see what we could find. We also picked up some spray paint. Spray paint is a MUST when you’re working on a budget because you can transform old pieces to look like new-while also incorporating your personal style and vibe.

We also picked up some garland beads, throw pillows, a sheet set, foam poster and stickers, Dollar Tree mirrors, and some decorative items from Dollar Tree.  I used Christmas beads around her ceiling light to make it look like a chandelier. This was a $2 DIY Chandelier! And it’s Ella’s favorite thing in the room!

I knew when I was coming down that I was going to bring my rug to give to her. I brought this rug from home because I no longer needed it. We also  changed out the bedding, added some throw pillows and some artwork. Little things make such a big difference! The throw pillows were $2 from Roses, the floating shelves were $3 also from Roses, and the decor on top of the shelves are all from Dollar Tree. We made the art on her wall from Dollar Tree supples, just a foam poster and black stickers.

We made this wall mirror above her dresser for $9 by using command strips and Dollar Tree mirrors and sticking them on the wall. We found the wall decal, the silver perfume tray, and the silver ring holder also at Dollar Tree. I spray painted her candle holder black so it goes with the theme and used white candles on top-all from Dollar Tree.

She needed curtains for her window and her closet. We found black curtains for $5 at Rose’s and strung some Christmas beads onto the curtains with zip ties. We use bead strings found in the Christmas section at Roses for curtain decor.  They were $1 per strand. We also found the lamp at Goodwill and made a floral arrangement from items at Dollar Tree.

Since we didn’t have much money to spend on artwork of this scale, I made this poster out of foam poster and black letter stickers from Dollar Tree.

She already had the skull frame from Dollar Tree (Halloween section) and she wanted to keep it and put it above her bed. I liked the idea and we needed to create something that would go with it and balance out the weight of the bed. We found the shelves at Roses for around $3 (not even kidding!)

All the decor on the shelves are either things she had, or things purchased from Dollar Tree. Getting some colorful throw pillows and placing items on shelves above her bed was one the cheapest ways of bringing color, texture, and a POP to her room, while also balancing out the weight of her bed-visually.

Here is another view of the after. She was just absolutely beaming with joy and loves her new room makeover. Like I said, we spent only $88 on this room makeover and it was worth every penny to see her so happy.
