Black walls have always been a favorite of mine. They’re bold without being too loud, timeless, and it really makes your accents pop. And I’m so excited it’s a 2017 Decorating Trend.  And of course, I always say to decorate how you want, and with things you genuinely love. Decorating is an art…if you makes you happy then it’s perfect for you. However, I’m writing this to help anyone that loves black walls but is scared to commit to such a dark, dramatic color.

No matter what your personal design style is…

The trick is to Break the Color Up with Accents + Artwork

If you love color, black is actually the perfect color to paint your walls because all of your accents and artwork are going to POP.

Black literally goes with everything.

I wouldn’t suggest black in a tiny room because it will have the effect of making the space seem even smaller, but if you have a big window ….

….or break the color up with floor to ceiling artwork, it will work.

 Get a rug

Rugs help break up the color, too! Just as the rug and white credenza help break up the black walls in this room. The artwork really pops and the statement lighting is perfect.

If you’re going to paint your bedroom black, get a colored headboard and break it up with some colorful pillows and throws. Note the curtains, rug, and side tables have no black in them, this helps to break up the wall color.

White trim + ceiling

Look how white and crisp the molding and pillows look, so fresh!

With black walls, whites look whiter and colors look richer, no matter what color palette you decide on.

Try an accent wall

If you’re still a little unsure, just paint an accent wall black.

How do you feel about black walls, would you ever try this trend?
